Lallier Grande Reserve Grand Cru Brut Champagne - NV

Description:

92 points Wine Enthusiast

With a fine sense of maturity, this is rich, toasty, full-bodied and concentrated. It is a Champagne with weight, showing pink grapefruit, melon and green plum flavors inside an intense texture. At the end, acidity combines with a fine toasty flourish. (12/2010)

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound

An expressive nose of lemon, green apple and soft baked bread nuances leads to a very rich and full-flavored mid-palate as the relatively high proportion of pinot noir is definitely evident. There is ample mousse and when coupled with the marked pinot character it combines to create a distinctive Champagne of excellent depth if not necessarily great refinement. This could easily be enjoyed now or held for another few years first. (9/2012)

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

(65% pinot noir from Ay and Verzenay and 35% chardonnay from Avize and Cramant): Pale yellow. Spicy pear and orange aromas are complicated by notes of beeswax, chamomile and anise, with a nutty overtone. Dry and expansive, offering pliant orchard and citrus fruit flavors and a touch of green almond. Shows a subtle herbal quality on the finish, which clings with good authority. 90 points (12/2012)

90 points Wine Spectator

Fresh and mouthwatering, with flavors of Gala apple, blackberry, lemon meringue, almond and a hint of bread dough. A well-balanced, aperitif-style version. Drink now through 2018. (10/2013)

Jancis Robinson

Ay. Quite a deep straw. Smells a bit wild-flower-like, sort of biodynamic! Fleury? Tight knit with lots going on. Interesting even if there is a bit of bruised apple on the finish. Quite long and certainly interesting. A bit chewy, but very attractive. 17.5 (3/2010)

Lallier is a very small négociant out of Ay, in the heart of Champagne and their Grande Reserve is composed of 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay entirely from Grand Cru vineyards. The wine has a very bright white gold color and a lazy, tight streamer that makes it very attractive in the glass. The aromatics are all one could wish for from Grand Cru Champagne based in Ay, with fresh baguette, black cherry and strong chalky components. It is full bodied, but has the mineral component to follow, and comes across as very well balanced.
